While external medicines are good for curing a physical disease, to heal the internal cause of the disease and make sure that we do not have to face the disease again, it is necessary to apply the "internal" medicine.
What is this internal medicine? This is meditation.
Meditation is the use of our own mind, our inner positive attitude, for the purpose of self-healing. And there is no need to narrow the concept of healing to the framework of a cure for one single disease, include in it getting rid of all the problems and causes that gave rise to them. Since our illnesses and other problems are caused by negative imprints left in our minds, the release of our adversities must also come from our minds. “Meditation” is just a term, a designation of what we are doing with our own consciousness; it is a therapy that has no equal, since there is no risk of side effects with it. Since both happiness and suffering arise from our mind, meditation is the main tool in healing. This is the only way to destroy the cause of suffering and create the cause of happiness. We cannot achieve this by any external means and methods. This must be achieved by transforming our mind. Medicines or simple visualizations alone can get rid of one particular disease, but this will not be enough to heal the mind. Apart from meditation, there is no other way to get rid of the disease itself and its cause. In meditation, our own positive attitude becomes an internal medicine that heals the mind and cures us of the cause of all our problems. For successful healing, we will need to cultivate the positive qualities of the mind. It is quite obvious that certain ways of thinking are peaceful, beneficial, and healthy, while others are disturbing, unhealthy, and harmful. Diseases and all other problems in our lives are the result of such unhealthy states of consciousness. An unhealthy state of consciousness is any mental activity that disturbs our mind and makes us unhappy, and an unhealthy body is only a natural derivative of an unhealthy mind. Meditation not only cures us of disease, but also brings an all-encompassing peace to our minds. It is the nature of positive thoughts to soothe and relieve stress. The best positive thoughts for healing are thoughts of love and compassion.
Love is a good thought that wishes others happiness and the possession of the causes of happiness. Great love is taking personal responsibility for making others happy and having the causes of happiness.
Compassion is the wish that others be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. Great compassion is taking personal responsibility for freeing others from suffering and its causes. The generation of these noble thoughts in the mind is capable of healing diseases.
Compassion is the best healer.
The most effective healing comes from generating compassion for all living beings, regardless of their race, nationality, creed, or degree of kinship with us. It is necessary to feel compassion towards all living beings, because each of them wants to find happiness and avoid suffering. We need to develop not only compassion - the desire to free all living beings from all suffering, but also great compassion, which means taking personal responsibility for the implementation of this good mission. Such a transformation of the mind brings about deep and all-encompassing healing. The nature of thoughts of love and compassion is peaceful and healthy, which makes it very different from the nature of ignorance, anger, attachment, pride or jealousy. Although a compassionate person sincerely cares for others and cannot bear the very fact that someone is suffering, the essential characteristic of his mind is still peace. At the same time, negative thoughts, such as the desire to harm others, are not peaceful states of consciousness. They are like a sharp thorn piercing your heart.
Passionate affection is also painful in its own way: our heart contracts, it chokes us, causing sharp pain whenever we are forced to part with the desired object.
Lust also clouds our minds, erecting a wall between us and reality. When we are attached to a particular person or animal, we are unable to perceive the reality of that being's suffering and empathize with it with all our heart, because our mind is poisoned by lust. Attachment leaves no room for compassion in our hearts. Even when helping such beings, we always do so with the expectation of receiving something in return. We do not extend a helping hand to them simply because they are sick or in danger, but we care for them in the expectation that in the future they will thank us for this in one way or another. When our mind is in the grip of attachment, it is not easy for us to experience compassion. By checking, we ourselves will be convinced that when our mind is overwhelmed with thoughts of attachment, we only care about what we ourselves want. Our main goal is our own pleasure. Even if we help others, it is only with the hope of getting something in return. Our mind is agitated and clouded. We fail to see that the person to whom we have a strong attachment is at least as important as we are; we are not able to truly care for such people, sincerely and disinterestedly extending a helping hand to them. By healing our own mind with great compassion, we will be able to solve all our problems, as well as the problems of those around us. The good thought of compassion will not only help us get rid of the disease, but will also bring us peace, happiness and contentment. It will make us able to enjoy life, bring peace and happiness to our family, friends and everyone around us. Since there will be no more negative thoughts in our mind towards others, the people and animals with whom we come into contact will experience joy when they meet us. If love and compassion are alive in us, our first concern will always be not to harm our neighbor, and this in itself is healing.
A compassionate person is the most powerful healer, not only in relation to their own diseases and other problems, but also in relation to the diseases and problems of other people. A person whose heart is full of love and compassion heals those around him by the very fact of his existence.
